ProForm Carbon TL Treadmill Review
The ProForm Carbon TL tops our list of the best budget treadmills in 2021, and with good reason. Priced at a nominal £799, it’s packed with plenty of user-friendly features that enable a smooth workout experience. If you’re looking for a durable piece of equipment for walking and jogging, this could be the one.
Overall, we have found the Carbon TL to be quite similar to the Proform 505 CST with only minor differences. It’s the first and the least advanced of the Carbon series treadmills, which means it’s the cheapest as well. Let’s take a detailed look at everything this model has to offer to help you decide if it’s indeed the one for you.
ProForm Carbon TL Features:
5” Console LCD
Admittedly, the 5-inch LCD of the ProForm Carbon TL is quite mainstream – maybe even disappointing for those who love coloured touchscreens. However, it’s good enough for the price – treadmills with fancy screens over their consoles don’t come cheap, and you have to realize you’re getting great value on this treadmill overall. This LCD displays your workout progress like time, distance, calories, speed, incline, and heart rate.
2.6 CHP Motor
Again, the motor on this one is not the best, but it does work great if you only need light to moderate workouts. We could walk, jog, and even run lightly on the Carbon TL without any problems. Still, we won’t recommend speeding up too fast too often; if you need a treadmill for running or high-intensity workouts, it’s better to go for a stronger motor.
16 km/h Top Speed and up to 10% Incline
Like most treadmills in its price range, the Carbon TL features a realistic speed and incline range that enables you to make the most of it without compromising the motor. The adjustable incline of up to 10% can add an uphill component to your workout for lower body toning and multiplied calorie burn.
Free 1-year iFit Access via Bluetooth + Preset Workouts
If you’ve been looking for ways to kill boredom while using a treadmill, your search is over! iFit Coach is one fitness app that allows immersive training with plenty of cool options. As if the thousands of workout videos in its library weren’t enough, the app has live personal trainers to coach you and virtual running locations for you to explore. You can also participate in marathons, take up new challenges, and track your activity, nutrition, and sleep.
We like how the Carbon TL doesn’t let its lack of an integrated iFit-ready screen come in the way of offering this feature. You can use the app on your own device and sync it to the treadmill via Bluetooth. As with most ProForm and NordicTrack treadmills, you also don’t have to pay for iFit membership during the first year, although you might need to provide your credit card info for access.
Besides iFit, you also get 20 programs built into the treadmill for more workout variety.
51 x 140 cm Tread Belt with Cushioning
The tread belt size of the Carbon TL should be enough for all kinds of users to jog comfortably. Even our most long-legged team members didn’t face any problems with the belt length. The ProShox™ cushioning is also a major reason why we recommend this treadmill. It’s great for protecting your joints as you work out, and you’ll feel the difference as this technology dampens your strides and minimizes harmful impact forces.
If you hate bulky machines getting in your way, you’ll love the convenient folding feature on the Carbon TL. It uses the same EasyLift Assist technology common in other folding treadmills by top brands such as ProForm and NordicTrack. Simply bring up the running deck vertically against the console with an easy push to free up your floor space.
Pulse Sensors for Heart Rate Monitoring
The Carbon TL has pulse sensors integrated into its handlebars in case you need to track your heart rate. Within seconds of holding them, you get a reading over the LCD. This can enable goal-oriented exercise by helping you stay in the right heart rate zone.
A decent sound system including dual 2-inch speakers and iPod/mp3 compatibility add to the fun while using the Carbon TL. There’s also an accessory tray to help you keep your essentials at hand.
